The Canadian Navy is about to get some new equipment to improve safety and security.
Minister of National Defence Anita Anand on behalf of Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada, Helena Jaczek, announced two contracts today for the Remote Mine-hunting and Disposal System, for our navy, valued at $57.9 million.
The new systems will allow the navy to identify and destroy sea mines and other explosive devices underwater, while keeping the crew safe. They will be primarily used for Kingston-class vessels, but can be used on other navy ships to support a wide range of operations. It will protect Canadian warships overseas where the mine threat is high.
They are expected to be fully operational on the east and west coasts by 2025.
