My, oh, my, the man in black has arrived on the big screen in a big way! After 15 years The Rock has finally brought his passion project to us, and I will say it did not disappoint. The DC Comics anti-hero shows no mercy and heart at the same time, making him a brutal yet very likable character. It doesn’t hurt the The Rock knows how to lay on the charm.
The film starts with an introduction, and a bit of an origin story but once Black Adam arrives the action is almost nonstop. There are just enough breaks to catch your breath before it fires up again. Not only does Black Adam shine, so does the Justice Society.
All of the members have their chance to shine, we don’t really get their full backstories. For rich characters like Hawkman and Doctor Fate that is a bit of a bummer. Hopefully we will get more of them in the future.
The main villain is definitely underbaked but serves the purpose of showing just how powerful Black Adam truly is.
The mid-credits scene is amazing! I won’t spoil it, but it was sweet. Not gonna lie, I had a tear in my eye.
The movie doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it is one hell of a good time. This is a popcorn blockbuster at its very best and does an amazing job setting up where the DC film universe can move on to from here.
The future of DC just got very, very exciting.
