You might have an easier time getting documents for your new job if you need to show you’re not on the provincial child abuse registry.
The province has announced if you need to confirm you’re not on the list for work or a volunteer opportunity you can now apply online.
Community Services Minister Karla MacFarlane says this will allow the department to send out confirmation letters quickly.
“Moving the Child Abuse Register search online allows us to receive applications faster and the Department can send out the confirmation letter within 10 business days,” MacFarlane says in a news release. “We want to make the process easier and more convenient for Nova Scotians to get the documents they need for their work or volunteer roles.”
The registry keeps a record of the names of people who have been found by Nova Scotia’s courts to have caused harm to a child.
Organizations and employers can request proof that people are not in the register if they are going to be in contact with children for work or a volunteer position. It’s also required for those interested in becoming foster parents or adopting.
Prior to the launch of the digital service, 40,000 paper applications were processed manually each year.
