Unifor files labour board complaint on Bell’s call for scab labour (CNW Group/Unifor)
Unifor is filing a complaint of unfair labour practices against Bell.
The two sides are trying to come to an agreement on a contract for clerical and associated workers and are in the midst of a cooling off period.
Unifor alleges the company of asking workers to work during a potential labour dispute.
It says two separate emails were sent to clerical staff in the past week.
Approximately 4,200 workers in the clerical bargaining unit voted in support of strike action in June to back contract demands.
“Bell clerical members across Ontario and Quebec are united in their demand for better working conditions and job security. The company should work with us to negotiate a fair deal for the times, rather than employing inflammatory, union-busting tactics,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer.
The workers are seeking a fair pay increase, continued work-from-home conditions, and an enforceable floor of employment in the bargaining unit.
