UPDATE (July 18th, 2:30 p.m.): The municipality has announced that Penhorn Lake Beach and Kinap Beach in Porter’s Lake have reopened to swimming.
Two beaches in the Halifax area are off-limits to swimmers.
Penhorn Lake Beach in Dartmouth and Kinap in Porters Lake are closed due to high bacteria levels in the water.
The water is tested regularly and staff will continue checking it until it’s safe to swim again.
High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife, and high temperatures.
The municipality will advise residents when the beach reopens.
