With the release of the new Tragically Hip live album ‘Live at the Roxy’ recorded in Los Angeles, we’ve decided to countdown the top five best of the best.
It wasn’t an easy task whatsoever, but we think we’ve cobbled together a pretty solid list. Now, please keep in mind, this list is a little subjective so take it as you will.
Without further adieu now pitter patter let’s get at er!
#5. Linkin Park – Live in Texas (2003)
First tune in is the epic ‘Somewhere I belong’ which instantly hooks you. Unlike Meteora, though, there’s some awesome throwbacks on this album that the live audience at Dallas’ Cowboy Stadium roars over. This CD back in the day came with the DVD for the live show as well. It was a nice little added memento from one of the biggest bands of the 2000’s era.
#4. Kiss – Alive (1975)
The legendary 70’s/80’s dress up band threw in some of their biggest tunes, but of course are missing a few gems that were released at a later date obviously. Most notably, ‘Detroit Rock City’ (1976) and ‘I was made for lovin’ you’ (1979) didn’t make the cut, among a few others.
#3. Chris Cornell – Unplugged in Sweden (2006)
Admittedly, again, this list is pretty subjective and the guy writing this blog is a huge Chris Cornell fan. On this album, he plays countless unplugged Soundgarden and Audioslave tunes along with a few solo gems. The video above is cued up to his ‘Thank You’ Led Zeppellin cover which is one of the best covers/songs of his career.
#2. AC/DC – Live (1991)
Feeling the electricity of Angus Young’s riff off the top, the vibe of the crowd and the roar of Brian Johnson makes this album – let alone this tune – hard to beat. A few other gems from the album include ‘Who Made Who’, ‘Shoot to Thrill’, ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ and ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’.
#1. Nirvana – Unplugged Live on MTV (1993)
This album will go down in history as one of, if not the best live rendition ever. On vinyl too, this recording is surreal. It’s Kurt Cobain as you’ve never heard him before. Without the hard rock accompaniment, we’re fully introduced to Cobain’s voice which is sweeter than candy.
