Summer is here and that means camping, fishing and great music!
Much like your favorite Food & Drink Guide, we thought it was time someone released the official Fishing and Music Guide.
For all of my angler friends in Nova Scotia here are the songs that best pair when angling for your favorite fish!
First off the Brook Trout (also known as Speckled trout). Often found in streams, rivers and smaller ponds this fish naturally pairs with the theme for the Andy Griffith show (but make sure you get this version , its more upbeat and fun, much like a good speckle on the end of your line!)
Striped Bass: When fishing for Stripers the only song you need is Faith No More’s Epic. There is nothing like hooking into a lunker Striper.. some would say its Epic!
Rainbow Trout: Always fun to hook a nice Rainbow, and even more fun when they start tail dancing across the surface, which is why we have decided the ultimate pairing for this ferocious fighter is House of Pain: Jump Around
Lake Trout: The elusiveness of the Laker in summer months makes it typically a tougher fish to find (but man its fun when you do!). The music pairing for this Depth dwelling monster can only belong to Sum 41: In Too Deep.
Smallmouth Bass: Smallmouths can be one of the most fun fish to go after , whether its fishing them around rock piles, logs or my favorite time to fish them top water at dusk. With that in mind we go off the beaten path and give the musical pairing for these beauties to The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Fishing in the Dark
Perch: Although small compared to most of the other fish we would normally go after, Perch are delicious if you can manage to land a few. Perch can also be the perfect main course of an unforgettable shore lunch. At the same time though, Perch are an incredible pain in the ass to clean, therefore we pair this delectable little creature with Seven Mary Three: Cumbersome
Chain Pickerel: The fish we love to hate. Chain Pickerel are invasive to our beautiful Nova Scotian lakes but if you can hook one or two these fish they can offer both a good fight and solid snack. (you need to figure out how to cut the Y bone out while cleaning) . In the end though its not good chain pickerel are spreading so fast throughout the province and because of this we feel they pair best with Radiohead: Creep
Atlantic Salmon: Not much you have to say about the Atlantic Salmon except Wahoo!!!! That is why its a no brainer that this fish pairs excellent with Blur: Song 2
Anything we missed let us know!
While we’re at it, here’s some of my favourite catches!
