This month at Yuk Yuk’s Halifax, several decorated Canadian comics will be taking the main stage every weekend.
First show of June took place this past weekend and featured Nova Scotia’s own Jay Malone. Jay was born in Kentville, NS and began comedy as a dare from college. He immediately loved the scene, dropped out and pursued it full time in Toronto. Jay won 1st place in Just For Laugh’s Montreal festival, and featured his Great Wall of China joke on the “Best of the Fest” segment on the Montreal newspaper covering the event. Safe to say that Jay knew right away how to make people laugh all day. Watch this clip of Jay’s show Canadian Bacon and see for yourself.
Next one on the docket is Clare Belford. You can see a teaser of Clare’s performance on Friday June 3rd & Saturday June 4th, as she is hosting Jay Malone. Then see the full thing as the feature for shows on June 10th & 11th at 8pm. Clare began her comedy routines in Edmonton where she became a staple of the local comedy scene. She spent the last five years in Toronto working on routines before making a step towards the Atlantic by moving to Moncton. Yuk Yuk’s say that her “…well-crafted writing and authentic delivery has made her a favourite amongst peers and audiences alike…” Here’s a clip of Clare’s performance during the Underdogs of Comedy show in Edmonton.
Next is another hometown performance, Peter White. You can see a preview of Pete’s handiwork on June 10th & Sat. June 11th at 8pm, hosting Clare Belford’s show. Then come for the whole experience on Friday June 24th and Sat. June 25th. Pete’s work spans all over the world and is an in-demand comic for comedy festivals and TV appearances. Pete was a writer for many publications, such as “This Hour Has 22 Minutes”, YTV’s “That’s So Weird”, and “VICE Magazine” online portion. He’s a popular comic with a mile long resume, but he’s here at Yuk Yuk’s Halifax. See for yourself in this clip on the Yuk Yuk’s stage in Toronto.
Last, but most certainly not least, see Dino Archie on Friday June 17th & Sat. June 18th. Archie has always wanted to make people laugh. He says “I try to make things very conversational, like that living room [conversation with family]. Most things said there are the funniest.” He wants to take on the Yuk Yuk’s stage, and make his punchlines stick with you. Check this clip out of when Dino performed stand-up on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
As well, each Thursday at 8pm it’s Pro Amateur night. Think you got the set-ups, punchlines, and jokes to make the Halifax waterfront laugh? Come test your skill and wit at the Yuk Yuk’s Halifax stage on Argyle Street.
