Ottawa wants to hear from you about the place of English and French in Canadian society.
Canada-wide consultations have begun for the next Action Plan for Official Languages.
Official Languages Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor encourages all Canadians to take part.
“We know that anglophone and francophone communities have a very different experience depending on whether they are Acadian, an English-speaking Quebecer, a francophone in a minority community, or an anglophone,” said Petitpas Taylor.
Invite-only in-person forums will take place in several communities over the coming months, including Sudbury, Ont., Moncton, N.B., and Halifax, N.S. Online consultations will also be open to all Canadians.
The consultations will conclude with a summit in Ottawa focusing on summarizing and reviewing the information collected.
Petitpas Taylor said action plans like this are one of the best tools to promote bilingualism.
“They help us to assess needs on the ground, allocate resources, and define broad objectives for five years to come,” she said.
According to the federal government, all initiatives in the current action plan have been implemented.
