A 23-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant in connection with two robberies and a mall lockdown in Halifax in March has been taken into custody.
Halifax Regional Police say investigators from the Guns and Gangs Unit arrested Jamar Lakwame Carvery on Saturday in the area of Ruben Court in Dartmouth after a brief pursuit.
He was wanted on several charges after the two armed robberies on March 1st. The Ash Jewellery on Quinpool Road and the Cash Trader Store on Sackville Drive were robbed.
Police reported three suspects had taken off in a car, which they later jumped out of and into the mall. Customers were told to evacuate or hide, while the public was asked to stay away due to the weapons complaint.
Two men were arrested at the mall that day and police recovered stolen property. The third suspect fled the area. Police asked the public for help to locate Carvery on March 29th.
He was wanted on the following charges: two counts of robbery, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, mischief, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of breach of a release order.
Police say he’s facing additional charges of flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Carvery was set to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Tuesday.
