The city has voted to replace 60 diesel powered buses at the end of their lifespan with new electric buses from Nova Bus Limited.
The decision was made at Tuesday’s regular council meeting to get the buses from the company, at a total cost of approximately $94.7 million.
30 of the new busses are set to hit Halifax streets throughout 2022-2023, with the other 30 slated to start service in 2023-24

In the approved 2022/2023 capital budget, the cost of the buses was estimated at $95.9 million.
Money for the buses is being put up by all three levels of government; 40 per cent of the funding is coming from the federal government, 33 per cent from the provincial government and 27 per cent from the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Funds for the buses were approved as part of the 2021-22 multi-year capital plan.
