The province is spending $21.6 million to replace a pair of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners at the Halifax Infirmary.
The money is to help pay for a new high-power MRI, a new medium-power MRI, and a new diagnostic suite for the equipment, as well as an existing third low-power MRI.
Michelle Thompson, Health and Wellness Minister, says residents deserve high-quality, modern healthcare.
“This includes having the best equipment needed for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning,” she says. “These MRIs will ensure care at the Infirmary will be state of the art.”
Thompson says MRI scanners use powerful magnets to take detailed pictures of internal organs and these pictures are necessary for doctors to make important treatment decisions.
The construction and installation of the new units is set to begin later this year.
