Shocking and tragic news out of the music industry.
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died as the band was touring in South America.
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band writes. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever” – Statement from Foo Fighters
Hawkins was born in Texas and started out as the touring drummer for Alanis Morissette during her rise to stardom in the 90’s.
He joined the Foos in 1997.
Their most recent show took place on March 20th at Lollapalooza in Argentina.
Here’s a video of the band performing “Everlong” which is now the last song Hawkins played with the Foos.
“I don’t say goodbye,” Dave Grohl told the crowd before cranking out their classic song. “I don’t like to say goodbye. I know that we’ll always come back. If you come back, we’ll come back. Will you come back? If you come back, we’ll come back, so then I won’t have to say goodbye.”
The cause of Hawkins’s death has not been released.
Surge 105 spoke with Alan Cross, the host of The Ongoing History of New Music, on the impact Hawkins’s death is having on the remaining members of the Foo Fighters and the band’s future.
