Shelburne Ship Repair has been sold.
Irving Shipbuilding made the deal with Liverpool-based Mersey Seafoods for an undisclosed amount.
Irving has owned the business since 2011, and had leased the facility since 1998.
Mary Keith, Vice President of Communications with Irving Shipbuilding says the sale best positions Shelburne Ship Repair for the future.
“We’re very pleased that Mersey Seafoods will be taking on all the employees, so there are no job losses associated with this sale,” says Keith.
Keith says the Coast Guard vessel Kopit Hopson 1752, which had been in Shelburne, has been moved to their Woodside Industries site for final work.
She says Irving will concentrate their focus on building the next generation of ships for Canada’s navy and coast guard in Halifax.
There are 67 employees in Shelburne, eight staff and 59 with Unifor Local 9.
Mersey Seafoods will assume the collective agreement with the union, and acquired all assets at the Shelburne site.
