NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has asked the International Olympic Committee if they’d be interested in move ice hockey to the summer games. Apparently Gary has been on the case for some time asking the IOC about an Olympic switch since the early-90’s. It leads us to one very important question, would this ruin the Summer Olympics?

Now, before you get upset, we’re going to present two arguments here. One against the NHL’s notion and one for it.
Think about it, would moving a winter sport to the summer be a gateway drug? Could we then move over snowboarding, the ski jump or curling? It’s doable. If the summer games were to head to New Zealand or Switzerland or somewhere along those lines you could easily hit the slopes. So where does it end if we move ice hockey – a traditionally winter sport?
Now, that we’ve played devil’s advocate, let’s talk about why moving hockey in the summer could be the greatest thing ever.
For starters, nobody takes issue with staying up late in the summer. So, if the games were based in Asia or something like that with a wonky time zone compared to our Atlantic region, you could stay up with a pop in-hand no problem. Now, nothing against our beloved winter athletes, but imagine a women’s national soccer win, Andre De Grasse capture gold in the 100m, followed by a gold in ice hockey going back-to-back-to-back!
Then, of course, there’s the obvious in that we’d never have to watch NHL’ers get pulled from the games again. The season would be over and pro hockey players could easily and ideally head over to partake and thus we’d have no more complaining from any local Bedford boys.
Brad Marchand is very disappointed about the NHL's ruling on the Olympics:
"I know at the end of the day, they don't care about the Olympics, they don't make money on it. And that's ultimately what this is — it's a business. And we're an asset." pic.twitter.com/zuNDTeZZNm
