The Chief of Halifax Police is asking for a $2-million budget increase to hire more staff.
Dan Kinsella proposed a more than $90-million dollar for next year during a police commission meeting on Monday.
Kinsella says the force is in “dire straits” as staffing levels have remained stagnant over the last decade.
If approved, the money would be used to hire 25 new officers and nine new civilians.
The vote has been delayed until the new year.
