Sure it’s December, but it is never too early to start thinking about warm weather and outdoor concerts. If I were you I would circle July 29-31st on your calendar. Those are the dates for the fifth edition of Rock The Hub in Truro, and I must say so far the lineup is incredible. So, let’s break it down shall we.
First The Glorious Sons, these guys are a blast to see live. I first saw them at The Marquee and they made the walls shake. At that point they only had a couple of hits, but that didn’t matter, the audience was into every note. Lead singer Brett Emmons is a dynamic frontman, he engages with the audience like few others. I’m sure he will have added some new tricks, as the band has just wrapped up a run with The Rolling Stones.
Also on the bill is Three Days Grace, one of the most successful bands in history. They have a been going back and forth with Shinedown for the record of most number one singles by a band o the rock chart. A very impressive accomplishment. They have done this even after changing singers, that can ruin a band, but they have forged on. I caught them on back to back nights in Moncton and Halifax, both nights were stellar.
Monster Truck is back this year by popular demand! These guys are easily one of the best live acts in Canada. They have also stirred up some controversy lately, as they teamed up with Kid Rock on his new single. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with these guys, and even hosted some acoustic performance and even unplugged they bring it.
July Talk’s back and forth vocals from Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay, give them one of the most unique sounds in rock today. Peter’s voice has a Tom Waits like quality, some say he sounds a bit like Cookie Monster. I asked him about this once and he laughed it off, having no problems being compared to the legendary Muppet.
What can be said about The Tea Party that hasn’t already. This trio consists of three of the best musicians in the country, and they have the string of hits to prove it. When I was chatting with Todd Kerns he marveled at the musicianship in this band. It really is something to take in live.
When Adam Gontier left Three Days Grace fans wondered what was next. Well he formed a supergroup, Saint Asonia. It consists of Adam Gontier, guitarist Mike Mushok from Staind, bassist Cale Gontier, and drummer Cody Watkins of Art of Dying. The bands first single “Better Place” could have easily be seen as Adam expressing how he felt being away from his former band. He told me in an interview that there was more to it then that. I still think it is a direct shot.
There are still more bands to be announced, but these six are enough to make one anxious for next summer. There is a one day pre-sale on Monday with a chance for a free upgrade to check that out. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday December 14th. Get your tickets and all the info at rockthehub.ca
And your favourite radio station might have tickets to give away so be listening Monday to Jeff, Amy and Sully on The Morning Surge for details.
