Yes, NASA is sending the all new Dart into space to destroy an asteroid. This is a real thing. We’re not making this up. The plot of Armageddon is actually coming to fruition – less the Bruce Willis running around the asteroid part.
So, with this all in mind, let’s rank the best space movies. Sure, there are some that belong in the honourable mention category and there are definitely some garbage flicks out there, but let’s try and focus on the cream of the crop.
#5 – Space Balls

Mel Brooks at his absolute finest. From Barf to Yogurt, Space Balls is one of the best parody movies of all-time – if not the best.
#4 – Total Recall (original)

Arguably Arnold’s best movie – although True Lies is right up there – and it still stands up to this day. We’re waiting for the day when we call all go live on Mars.
#3 – Star Trek
Say what you want, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock etc. The guy writing this is 35 and this JJ Abrams rendition was nothing short of awesome!
#2 – Star Wars (all of em)

Every Star Wars movie combined equals some of the best space sci-fi content ever made. Now with that said, we’ve decided to change the protocol for these ranks. There’s science fiction and then there’s actual science and true stories.
So that’s why our top ranked space movie is…
#1 – Apollo 13
Even though you’ve probably seen it a hundred times, try watching Apollo 13 from start to finish without tearing up. When the static clears and Tom Hanks calls into Ed Harris over the speaker our tear ducts turn into geysers.
If we missed any, by all means, throw your suggestions underneath.
