Temporary homes for Halifax’s homeless population are set to be ready by Dec. 20.
The modular units are designed with shared laundry and kitchens, and private beds and bathrooms.
City officials said they are already working on the site for four of the units in Dartmouth.
The units are set to arrive on Nov. 30, be installed on Dec. 3, and connected to utilities by Dec. 10.
The site will have room for 24 people.
City officials said the province and Out of the Cold are responsible for running program, so will decide when to bring the first people in once the units are ready to go on Dec 20.
As for a Halifax site, units haven’t been purchased yet.
City officials are set to meet with their provincial counterparts and Out of the Cold this week for a final review of that site.
The city promised to house unhomed people after protestors clashed with police during the removal of homeless encampments in August.
