Health officials in the United States are giving the greenlight to Pfizer for its kid-size COVID-19 shot.
The CDC has signed off on its use for children aged 5-11. The FDA had already given its approval.
It is a major milestone for the U.S. as more than 28 million children are now eligible.
President Joe Biden has released a statement calling it a “turning point” in the battle against COVID-19.
“It will allow parents to end months of anxious worrying about their kids, and reduce the extent to which children spread the virus to others,” Biden says. “It is a major step forward for our nation in our fight to defeat the virus.”
The pediatric dose is about one-third the amount given to adults and requires a second shot three weeks later.
Health officials in Canada are currently reviewing Pfizer’s submission for approval to use the vaccine here.
