You won’t have to shell out 4 bucks to get to New Brunswick soon.
The province has taken first steps to remove the Cobequid Pass tolls.
Officials will pay off the bonds related to the Cobequid Pass toll highway early.
The Department of Public Works will immediately begin further planning for their removal.
That’s the highlight out of Wednesday’s budget update from Allan MacMaster, Finance and Treasury Board Minister.
“We’ve heard from Nova Scotians, and they’ve given government a clear mandate,” he said. “Now is the time to take action and make investments that will improve the lives of Nova Scotians across our province.”
The province’s projected deficit has dropped $140 million, from $584 million down to $444 million.
The provincial government is also setting aside $423 million more, mostly for COVID-19 pandemic response.
MacMaster also announced $32 million in spending for a new Seniors’ Care Grant, and $2.3 million for the Healthy School Fund, a diversity-centred teacher professional development program, and classroom mental health resource kits.
