A massive endangered blue whale has washed up on a beach near Halifax.
The 25-metre long whale came ashore yesterday at Crystal Crescent Beach. Members of the Marine Animal Research Society (MARS) were on-scene on Thursday to assess the situation and collect valuable research samples.
“While the location is not ideal for a full-scale necropsy, we are working closely with our partners to determine the best steps forward,” MARS wrote in a post on their Facebook page.

A full necropsy is needed to find out how it died but the whale is beached in a very rocky area.
“Please remember that while this is an amazing animal that people may want to visit, it is also a federally protected species and it is illegal to disturb the carcass or remove any body parts. Feel free to look at the animal but please do not touch and be sure to keep back a safe distance.” explained MARS.

Responders are still trying to figure out how to bring in the proper research and burial equipment.
