You might have wondered why you’re already seeing school busses on the road.
Halifax Regional Centre for Education spokesperson Doug Hadley said bus drivers are getting ready for the big day.
“This week you might be seeing yellow out and about on the streets, those would be drivers out practicing their routes,” he said. “Ensuring that they know where all their stops are going to be, so they’re ready on the first day of school.”
Hadley said you may want to set aside some extra time to get the kids on the bus next week.
He said the first day of school is always a little chaotic.
“There’ll be lots of opportunities, if you can imagine, of parents who will be wanting to meet the driver, or, if they’re new to the system, introduce themselves,” he said. “They might want to get a picture with their child.”
Hadley is asking you to get to the bus stop 10 minutes early until things level out. After the first few days you’ll only need to get to the bus stop five minutes early.
He said there are changes to bus routes every year, and if you’re sending your little ones on the bus you can sign up for HRCE bus planner account.
It’ll send you updates on routes and pickup times leading up to Tuesday.
