The MLA for Chester-St. Margaret’s will not be reoffering when the next election is called.
Hugh MacKay resigned as a member for the Liberals after charges surrounding a second impaired driving charge came to light.
He’s been sitting as an Independent since February of last year.
“It has been a great honour to have served the constituents of beautiful Chester-St. Margaret’s for the past four years in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly,” wrote MacKay in a post on his official Facebook page. “As I enter the next chapter of my life, I am grateful to be in good health and I will continue to stay focused on my well-being.”
MacKay was first elected in 2017.
The riding was closely contested as MacKay won by under 100 votes over Denise Peterson-Rafuse of the NDP.
